About Us

What We Are All About
Since 1949, we have provided programs and services to aid our clients in achieving their maximum potential, and we are honored to have assisted in their journey towards independence. We continue to take significant steps to meet the needs of the growing county.

  • Our Birth to Three developmental screening program has been expanded.
  • New staff and equipment has been added.
  • Our Speech Therapy department offers bilingual services.
  • We have recently opened a new and innovative Lymphedema therapy program.
  • Home-bound patients in McHenry County can also receive the services of registered nurses and home health aides through our Home Health Care Program.

The primary purpose of the Adult and Child Rehab Center is to provide direct services for children and adults living and working in McHenry and Boone counties. Services are offered to anyone in need, regardless of the individual’s ability to pay. Physical, speech,  occupational and lymphedema therapy are provided at the Rehab Center and through the agency’s Home Health Care Program. Many of McHenry County’s nursing homes, schools, nursing agencies and hospitals utilize the services of the Rehab Center therapists.

Our secondary purpose is to enhance community education through tours, speaking engagements, literature and referrals. The Adult and Child Rehabilitation Center is a non-profit organization licensed by the state of Illinois and Medicare approved.

How It All Began
Dr. NeuchillerDr. Bernard B. (B.B.) Neuchiller
and Dr. John Tambone founded the McHenry County Easter Seals in Woodstock in 1949, which has evolved into the present day Adult & Child Rehab Center. We have been at our current site at 708 Washington Street since 1955.

Past Director - Susan Martino
Susan Martino was involved with the Adult and Child Rehab Center for 20 years. She began her career with ACRC in August of 1984, by implementing a Home Health Care Department. In 1987 she moved into the Executive Director position, then became Chief Executive Officer (CEO), when we formally became known as The Adult & Child Rehab Center. Susan played a crucial role in the dissafiliation from Easter Seals, in 1994. Susan retired in March of 2004 and is enjoying time with her family.

Kim Larson, prior to taking over as Executive Director in 2004,  was an RN working for Mercy Health System. Kim has been instrumental in developing new programs and purchasing new equipment including a bi-lingual speech program,
lymphedema therapy, the addition of a sensory gym and a new stepper. She has experience in urgent care, pediatrics, plastic surgery and general surgery. She and her husband, Richard, live in Woodstock and have two children, Bradley and Andrea.
