Therapy, Rehabilitation and child programs

Programs

Physical Therapy
Physical Therapists treat patients with a wide range of needs, such as birth defects, acquired disabilities and physical impairment associated with the aging process.

Physical Therapy treatment is based on restoration of physical functions while concentrating on lower extremities and large muscles. Therapy consists of improving coordination, balance and strengthening and/or re-educating muscles.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy helps disabled children and adults by improving coordination, strengthening or re-educating muscles, and training in activities of daily living so that each individual can attain a maximum level of independence.

Occupational Therapy addresses the fine motor development, movement and strength of the upper extremities. Treatment is calculated to encourage clients to contribute to their own recovery and adapt skills needed to increase their independence.

Speech Therapy
Speech pathologists treat children and adults with speech or language problems resulting from birth defects, brain injuries, developmental disabilities, strokes, vocal cord malfunction or laryngectomy.

Speech Therapy treatment facilitates the optimum use of swallowing techniques and speech/language abilities. Speech Therapy teaches effective communication skills for functions that are lost or diminished and incorporates alternative strategies when necessary.

Lymphedema Therapy
Lymphedema is the accumulation of fluid that can collect in any body part, typically in the arms and legs. This can occur when the Lymph nodes are damaged or surgically removed, fluid backs up and the surrounding tissue swells. Bacteria in this environment can greatly increase the risk of infection.

Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
Since there is no cure, the therapeutic goal is to reduce the initial swelling and to maintain the reduction. CDT is a safe, non-invasive procedure with excellent long term results. This therapy consists of a gentle manual treatment technique that encourages the lymph vessels to open and circulate the interstitial fluid. To prevent the re-accumulation of fluid, it is necessary to apply compression therapy to the extremity using special short stretch bandages.

Sensory Integration Therapy
The Adult & Child Rehab Center has the only sensory integration treatment room in McHenry County. With state of the art equipment, our sensory integration room offers a variety of visual, auditory and tactile effects. This room is used to treat children with all levels of Sensory Integration Dysfunction based on their specific needs.

Home Health Programs
Home Health Care provides medical assistance to the home-bound patients in McHenry County. Through the services of registered nurses, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, home health aides and social workers, a specialized home care plan is designed to personally meet the needs of each patient based on his or her physician’s treatment plan.

Patients, as well as their family members, are instructed in treatment and care techniques and counseled for recognition of solutions to physical, emotional or environmental health problems. The caring, professional services of a Home Health Care team can often lead to a more rapid recovery since the patient is able to remain at home, with family, in familiar surroundings
